Six Flags adds seat belts. Nine coasters stay shut.
Six Flags will put seat belts on Goliath, the Georgia coaster a 42-year-old man fell from on October 12, and on every ride with the same lap bar. Goliath and eight more coasters at five parks stay closed. All nine came from one Swiss maker. Investigators still haven’t said what went wrong.
You might hear that a man fell off a roller coaster in Georgia and died. The park is putting seat belts on that ride and the ones like it, the way a car has a belt as well as a locked door. The ride stays shut while they check it. The grown-ups have it.
Why it worksA six-year-old takes one vivid detail for the whole story, and the one on offer is a man in the air, so the script hands them another: the seat belt they click every morning. Cantor found this age fears what it can picture. Expect “can I still go on rides?” Yes, with the bar and the belt.
- “Why do coasters need seat belts?”
- To hold you in your seat if the bar ever lets go. A man fell off one, so now the park is adding a belt as a second grip.

On October 12 a man fell from Goliath, a 200-foot coaster in Georgia, and died. The ride holds you with a padded bar over your lap. Now Six Flags will add seat belts to Goliath and every coaster with that bar, and nine stay shut for now. A belt under a bar is a second lock on the same door.
Why it worksThis age builds chains of cause and effect and checks whether the rule fits the risk, so the script runs the chain: fall, the bar meant to hold, the belt under it, nine rides shut while it’s fitted. A second lock is a mechanism they know. Expect “why no belt before?” Nobody has said.
- “Why wasn’t there a seat belt already?”
- The bar was built to be enough on its own. Nobody has said what failed.
- “Is my roller coaster safe?”
- Nine coasters with the same bar are shut. Engineers are checking the rest.

Who decides a ride is safe, the park or the state? After a man was thrown from Goliath, Six Flags is belting every coaster with that lap bar, and nine stay shut. SeaWorld has the same bar on Mako and reopened it in a week. Same bar, two answers. Which would you trust?
Why it worksA teenager can hold two true things at once: the same restraint is on Goliath, which is shut, and on Mako, which runs again. The script sets the parks side by side and asks which they trust, a risk they will be offered on a school trip. Expect “was the bar the problem?” Nobody has said.
- “Was the bar the problem?”
- Nobody has said. Six Flags shut all nine with that bar anyway.
- “Why did SeaWorld reopen theirs?”
- It hasn’t said. AP asked on Saturday. The story has no reply.
