Trump bans three news outlets from the White House
He announced it Friday on Truth Social, saying CNN, MS NOW and Politico “constantly write or report fiction or lies,” and gave no examples. He did not say how the ban would work. Reporters from CNN and Politico were still on the grounds afterward. Asked why now, he said, “You get sick of it,” and allowed a court might not let it stand.
The president said three news companies can’t come into the White House anymore. He says they tell lies about him, but he didn’t show any. It’s like telling three kids they can’t come in your room because you’re mad at them. The grown-ups have it.
Why it worksShutting someone out because you don’t like what they say is a thing a five-year-old already knows from home.
- “Why doesn’t he like them?”
- He says they tell lies about him. He didn’t give any examples. Reporters ask presidents hard questions, and that’s their job.

Trump posted that CNN, MS NOW and Politico are banned from the White House for writing “fiction or lies.” He gave no examples and no rules for how it works. Like a referee ejecting players without saying what the foul was.
Why it worksKids this age want the rule named before the punishment. Here there isn’t one.
- “Can he really do that?”
- He says so. When he barred a CNN reporter in his first term, CNN sued and got the pass back.
- “What did they lie about?”
- He didn’t say. His post named no story. Asked why now, he said it was cumulative stories over the last few years.

Is that even legal? Trump says a court may not let the ban stand and did it anyway: “good to point it out, whether it survives or doesn’t.” He named no false story. What’s the point of a ban you expect to lose?
Why it worksTeens can hold a move and its stated reason side by side and judge the gap.
- “Is that even legal?”
- It ends up in court. CNN sued over a first-term ban and won the pass back. The AP’s 2025 suit is still going.
- “Why these three?”
- He says they “constantly write or report fiction or lies.” No example. Others may follow.

Should you get to pick who is allowed to ask you questions?
Ask it at any age. Anyone can answer it, including the ones who didn’t read the news.
